Over-scheduled?

A friend made a comment this week about how I over-schedule myself. For those of you who aren't aware, I'm busy 98% of my time or more. Between ward activities, my calling, improv comedy, tap dancing, Institute, dating, and other social activities, I'm pretty lucky to spend more than an hour at home most days before going to bed--and I never get to bed before midnight anymore. But I don't see anything wrong with that. I've always been of the opinion that it's the extra things I've done that have brought me the most joy. Plus I'm not often stressed out anymore. There are times when one thing requires a sacrifice from one of the others (such as a mandatory meeting/rehearsal or a performance), but it seems like everything makes room for everything else.

Friends have been trying to convince me for a while to get a Facebook account. But among several reasons I've chosen not to get an account, time is one of the most prominent. They say it just takes 10 minutes to check it, but that 10 minutes is valuable rare time I'd rather not spend online. Besides, I'm not hurting on the social networking side of things (I love my social life, and I meet new people every week). Am I really missing out?

No, I don't think I'm over-scheduled. I've got myself scheduled just enough to suit what I want to be doing right now. Oh, and for those of you wondering when I'm going to be in another musical? Not anytime soon...I've got other things I'm involved with right now. :)

Breaking and Entering

Last night I got out of a meeting early and realized I had a little time to kill before going to improv. My mind started wandering, and I remembered my friend, thinking, "I wonder how he's doing right now." Just then, he called me. He had locked himself out of his car in Provo and was wondering if I could bring his spare key to him. I agreed, and proceeded to his house to get his spare key.

After wandering around his neighborhood, I finally identified which house was his. I opened the garage door with his key code and went in. However, the door from his garage was locked too. I called my friend back and he was way confused, since they "never" lock that door. He told me he would have to call his roommate to see what other options we had.

A minute later he calls back and asks, "Do you have a credit card?" I couldn't believe it! That was his ingenious solution--just break into the house. So here I am, jiggling the door knob, shoving my credit card into the door, and slamming my body against the door. I was sure that anyone would have known just by glancing at me that I was trying to break into the house, so I kept looking behind me to make sure I hadn't been spotted. After a few minutes, the door opened! I can't believe it--I totally carded the door!

I eventually found his room and the spare key, and was able to deliver it to him. But now I can add one more skill to my resume--breaking in!

Okay, so until I can come up with a way of adding a dynamic list to my blog that will show all my upcoming performances, I've decided to post them all in a blog entry. I'll put a link on the side of my blog that will take you to this entry, so that as I have shows, I can just update this entry and the link will be up to date. Upcoming Events, Anyone?

Hey, I'm looking for a way to display on the side of my blog upcoming events, so that I can advertise all my future performances. I found a few gadgets that pull the information from your Google calendar and convert it into a list of events, but I couldn't get the feed to work. Any ideas?

By the way, while I was looking, I saw a gadget for blogs called an Ovulation Calendar. Who in their right mind would post that on their blog for the world to see? Still, it made me giggle at the thought.

Country Swing

Last night I went to FHE which was advertised as dinner and dancing. It wasn't until I showed up that I learned it would be Country swing dancing. I have to say, I was pretty bummed to find out. Of all forms of swing, Country is my least favorite--and it's not just because I hate country music. Country swing is basic and bland in comparison to other forms of swing. The basic step only has two counts! Step, step. That's it. Give me a 6- or 8-count basic with some form. Country swing isn't nearly as fun to dance or watch, as say East Coast, West Coast, Jitterbug, Charleston, Jive, Triple swing, or Lindy Hop.

So why is Country the most popular form of swing? I submit that it's because it's the dance for people who can't dance. Don't expect to see me to put on a pair of boots and wranglers to go dancing.
